For the first time ever Erkan Ogur comes to London with his Anatolian-jazz trio Telvin. Think Egberto Gismonti meets Pat Metheny with touches of John Scofield fusions - a stunningly beautiful concert with affinities to the Metheny-Haden project, Under a Missouri Sky. Highly regarded for his interpretaions of ancient Anatolian folk music, Erkan Ogur also spent some years of his youth touring the blues in Mississippi. In Telvin he finds a group where he can express himself through his instantly-recognisable and inimitable improvisations, found on CDs of countless musicians in Turkey. Erkan uses the guitar - acoustic and electric, fretted and fretless - in a way that brings Turkish modes and scales into melodic jazz improvisations. Their new album is out now (Kalan, 2006)
Support from Yan Vagh, an equally amazing Parisian guitaist who plays acoustic and 10-string fretless guitar. Blending vocals into his guitar sound, Yan's music is exciting, surprising and dynamic.
