<description>THE TABERNACLE, NOTTING HILL, 34 Powis Square, Notting Hill/Westbourne Park London W11 2AY - Off Ledbury Road. 10 minutes walk from Notting Hill Underground.

With influences as varied as Romanian gypsy stars Taraf de Haidouks, Frank Zappa and Led Zeppelin, accordionist Koby Israelite&rsquo;s high-energy music defies categorisation.  His five releases have been praised as genre-busting,
and tracks have been used in Madonna&rsquo;s film Filth & Wisdom and covered
by gypsy brass legends Fanfare Ciocarlia.

Gipsydelica provides funky Bulgarian gypsy grooves
with the irrepressible Morski on guitar. Always a delight.
+ Balkan Swing Master DJ Sacha Dieu

Tickets £10 plus booking fee in advance - 08444 771 000

Student concessions with valid card on the door.
The Tabernacle has a great restaurant / bar if you want to eat before the show.
Reservation advised 020 7221 9700

&ldquo; If you like my playing, you should hear Richard Smith!&rdquo;  Tommy Emmanuel

Richard and Tommy Emmanuel on Youtube. Great!

Londoner Richard Smith was a child prodigy who, aged 11, played on stage with Chet Atkins, the late great godfather of fingerstyle guitar. He moved to the USA  to the guitar hothouse of Nashville, and became USA National Fingerstyle Guitar Champion in 2001.  Richard Smith is nothing less than a phenomenon, and his live shows are mind-blowing. You&rsquo;ll wonder how one man and a guitar can sound as he does &ndash; sometimes he&rsquo;s a whole marching band all on his own! He's toured the world, surprising audiences everywhere with his genius, showcasing a repertoire spanning an incredible range of musical styles from country, bluegrass, mainstream jazz, pop, to classical guitar, with fun, feeling and finesse.  He's joined for this concert by his wife Julie Adams on cello.
Their repertoire includes a wide variety of instrumental and vocal music from Scott Joplin Rags, Sousa marches, Mozart, fiddle tunes, standards, Chet Atkins and Jerry Reed tunes, Django Reinhardt gypsy jazz, Bach, Beatles and pop tunes, lightning fast barn-burners to beautiful ballads. This promises to be an outstanding evening of virtuoso musicianship. The combination of Julie's lyrical style and Richard's dazzling technique will melt your heartstrings, have your toes tapping and your jaws hanging open.

In Yasmin Levy&rsquo;s music there is a tension between the purity of Ladino (the Judeo-Spanish music of Spain) and the fiery heart of flamenco. As she explains &rsquo; There&rsquo;s a very traditional way of singing Ladino. I learnt it&hellip;listening to women singing and it&rsquo;s beautiful, but I missed the passion. Flamenco is nothing but passion.&rsquo; In her new album Sentir (World Village), produced by the acclaimed Javier Limón (who has worked previously with the likes of Portuguese fado star Mariza), she has found a vision that integrates these musical directions. With Sentir, Yasmin&rsquo;s music truly becomes &rsquo;of the world&rsquo;.

The concert begins with Turkish singer Çigdem Aslan (pronounced Cheedem), who performs poignant rebetiko songs in Greek and Turkish from 1920s Smyrna, Istanbul, Athens and Piraeus.
