		<description>PICTUREHOUSE CINEMA GREENWICH, 180 Greenwich High Road, Greenwich, London, SE10 8NN, Box Office Number: 0871 902 5732

Not since Paganini had there been such a magician on the violin. Born in tsarist Russia Jascha Heifetz was a prodigy who aged 9 performed to 25,000 people in St Petersburg, and went on to become one of the most outstanding musicians of the twentieth century, a global cele...brity before the age of celebrity.

Through previously unseen footage, home movies, concert performances and testimonies from musicians, friends and students, JASCHA HEIFETZ: GOD'S FIDDLER tells the Heifetz story, of a legendary but mysterious figure whose life embodied the tension of artistic genius: of how a mortal man lives with immortal gifts, gifts he must honour, but which extract a life-long personal price.

40 years since his last public performance and 25 years since his death, JASCHA HEIFETZ: GOD'S FIDDLER uncovers the man behind the music.

UK premiere of this 2010 documentary film. One night only!

		<description>RICH MIX SHOREDITCH, 35 - 47 Bethnal Green Road,, E1 6LA

An explosive fusion of Balkan and Gypsy rhythms and lightening-fast melodies from the Romanian band whose song featured all over the Borat soundtrack. Be transported straight to a Gypsy wedding!

Their music is known the world over as the basis for the classic Shantel remix of their track Mahalageasca. They&rsquo;ve played the Barbican Centre with Eugene Hutz of Gogol Bordello, and the Royal Festival Hall in the Gypsy Queens and Kings show. They are the mighty Mahala Rai Banda, an explosive combination of Gypsy accordion and fiddle in the tradition of Johnny Depp favourites Taraf de Haidouks, and ex-Romanian military brass blowers in the line of Fanfare Ciocarlia.

Mahala means &lsquo;the Gypsy part of town&rsquo;, Rai is &lsquo;honourable&rsquo; and Banda&hellip;. Well, there are 11 of them on stage. Their show last year at Rich Mix was a mother of all parties.
Superfast melodies, heavy heavy tuba grooves. and tight arrangements: "life-affirming, drink-affirming, and music-affirming" (The Arts Desk). With bags of joie de vivre mixed with a shot of fiery palinka, Mahala Rai Banda will have you hot and sweaty in no time!
Plus visuals by BJ Crna Trava (Balkanica) and DJ set Dr Cat (Dr Cat Music)

An evening of heart-warming Romanian song from the Carpathian mountains. http://www.forgevenue.org/whats-on/eventdetails/28-apr-12-monooka-the-forge/

Award-winning Romanian singer-songwriter Monooka founded Monooka&rsquo;s Caravan to perform traditional songs from the Carpat...hian Mountains in a powerful collaboration with three British musicians, Meg Hamilton, Matt Bacon and Paul Moylan, leading lights in the revival of interest in Eastern European music in the UK. <description>RICH MIX SHOREDITCH, 35-47 Bethnal Green Road E1 6LA

The 76 year old legend of Ethiopian jazz joins ground-breaking Dutch post-punk unit The Ex for a joyous set of 'Swinging Addis' standards like you've never heard them before.

&ldquo; Not only is Mekuria&rsquo;s sax playing pure vibrato-heavy perfection, but when The Ex delve into noise guitar breakdowns and drummer Katherina Bornefeld takes over singing duties we&rsquo;re into some otherworldly awesomeness &hellip; incredibly uplifting&rdquo; &ndash; Eye Weekly

An extra special face-off brimming with wild party energy in which saxophone-wielding king of Ethiopian jazz soul Getatchew Mekuria meets Dutch post-punk legends The Ex and a cast of special guests in a 10-strong big band. Together they present a set of classic &ldquo;Swinging Addis&rdquo; standards like you&rsquo;ve never heard them, performed with all their lyrical musicality intact, but rocket-launched skywards with a rare and raw transcultural fire.

Getatchew Mekuria is the most revered veteran of the Ethiopian saxophone -  a physical and musical giant whose &ldquo;Negus of Ethiopian Sax&rdquo;  album featured in the acclaimed &ldquo;Ethiopiques&rdquo; reissue series. Now 76 years old, he has collaborated with all the great Ethiopian singers over the years and is still in full voice with his own, powerfully distinctive style of playing. His huge vibrato, both forceful and fragile, plays around the vocal lines, using typical Ethiopian embellishments. He dons a lion&rsquo;s mane when he plays and cuts loose with furious solos that come over like a kind of free jazz from before free jazz existed.
Since 1979, Amsterdam&rsquo;s The Ex have consistently pushed the envelope, plotting a restless course from their anarchist punk origins to embrace everything sound could throw at them. Their thrillingly raw and rhythmic rock sound is born from their ideals, musical friendships/networks and work ethic. They are one of the most visceral rock units in action today.
Ever hungry to place themselves in unfamiliar contexts, The Ex toured Ethiopia twice and fell in love with its music, which led to them inviting Getatchew to perform at their 25th anniversary party in Holland. His contribution to proceedings blasted everyone off stage, and, suitably inspired, The Ex invited him on tour with them, their incendiary live collaboration bearing fruits in a blistering album released on the band&rsquo;s Terp Records imprint in 2006.
Support from London's own Krar Collective and DJ Russ Jones aka The Hackney Globe Trotter.
